FOUR SEASONS LATER – Lessons Learned
Childsplayspot began its Internet business in
April, 2003. On November 1, 2003 we opened our first retail
store in Olde Lafayette Village, Lafayette, NJ. One year later
we moved to a larger store in the Village. We thought we had
our stuff together for 2005, but alas, we learned even more
lessons:
- It’s STILL very expensive to own a toy store when
you have a nearly 7-year old grandson, a 4-year old granddaughter
and a two year old grandson.
- Having your wife "help" in the store sometimes
leads to sleeping on the couch.
- Melissa and Doug have the best booth at Toy Fair - get
there early for the best food.

CHILDSPLAYSPOT.COM is the fruition of a vision of Richard Holden, a disillusioned and “clueless” grandparent and President of CHILDSPLAYSPOT.COM. The company’s vision is to offer high-quality educational toys for infants, toddlers and young children at discounted prices and a place for our youngest visitors to play interactive games that are fun and educational.

Upon the birth of his first grandchild in 2000 Mr. Holden quickly realized that Sesame Street, The Electric Company, and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood were no longer the only programs on TV for children. He was also astonished to learn that the toy market now consisted of more than Barbie Dolls, Hot Wheels, and GI Joe action figures.
His trips to the mega stores to buy a couple things for his grandchildren were eye-opening experiences. Shelves and shelves of toys, books, videos, games, and crafts. And the prices…you must be kidding! With so many toys, books, videos, and games to choose from, he needed direction. He wanted something that would be educational, of the highest quality, and reasonably priced. He settled for educational and high quality.
Thus, the genesis of the web site CHILDSPLAYSPOT.COM. CPS is an alternative to the mega store - a limited selection of only high quality toys at fair prices on a website that doesn’t try to be everything to everybody.

The SHOPSPOT is our store. Here you can purchase
toys, books and games from first-class manufacturers and publishers
at reasonable prices. The inventory
is limited for good reason - Quality control. If we restrict
our inventory we can carry only products that meet our high
standards. The products we carry are high quality and educational
– and our own children and grandchildren like them. Interesting
concept - Educational and Well-Liked!

Very few of us can afford to continually buy toys, games, videos and books for our children. So, as an alternative to the SHOPSPOT we developed the PLAYSPOT. The PLAYSPOT is the place to bring your young children to play games that teach and entertain. And, the best part of the PLAYSPOT is that the only thing you spend there is TIME. TIME with kids. Now that’s better than any toy you can buy!
